Zhang Shang Feng

Zhang Shang Feng is based in Xi'an and has held exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and London, and solo exhibitions are to be held in Beijing and Los Angeles in 2025. The artist states that the traction of a painting is like an unspoken dissonance that can lead to a more complex experience than a fleeting view or beauty. The artist is inspired by the traces of past and old black-and-white movies. In his works, the main characters appear to be male figures. The artist does not distinguish between genders or a specific person, and it is simply treated as a ‘character.’ He believes in communicating with the world by understanding body language through the hands and body postures of a ‘character’.  The ‘character’ evolves one after another in the progression of a painting. Without an expected result, the accumulation of disordered layers creates a world of unique works.
