디 언타이틀드 보이드에서는 2023년 3월 17일부터 4월 16일까지 까를로스 블랑코 아르테로(Carlos Blanco Artero)의 국내 첫 개인전 ‘BLANCO’를 개최한다. 블랑코는 스페인 출신 작가로 마드리드에 거주하며 작업하고 있다. 작가는 그간 세계 여러 나라에 머물며 대가들의 작품을 관조하며 얻은 영감을 그의 작품세계에 영향력을 행사하도록 놔두었다. 더하여 피아노곡을 연주하며 소리를 그림으로 치환하는 방식도 꾸준히 연구하며 장르의 구분을 넘는 폭넓은 표현을 해 오고 있다. 작가는 본인이 속한 환경적, 신체적 경험 등에 따라오는 복합적인 감흥에 집중하고, 이에 파생된 작업과정은 그의 철학을 거쳐 비로소 완결성을 직조해간다.

혼돈 속의 질서, 즉 카오스모스적 개념이 나타나는 그의 작품은 형상과 추상을 굳이 양분화하지 않고 한 화면 안에 동시에 나타내는데 회화와 드로잉, 선과 색을 율동적으로 중첩하고 상호보완적으로 작용시켜 하나의 작품으로 승화시킨다. 활동 초기, 그는 구체적 인물을 표현하는 데 초점을 두었다. 이후 인물은 그가 만들어낸 질서 안에서 물리적 해체 과정을 거쳐 분해되어 점점 더 추상적으로 변모했고, 화면 전체에 미묘한 변형을 가하거나 패턴화되기도 한다.

다면적 결합의 특질을 유기적으로 발전시키는 블랑코의 작품은 직관적인 첫인상과 더불어 다시점과 입체적인 면모로 인해 분해 해석하게 되는 상이한 욕구가 공존하게 되며, 다채로운 감상을 가능하게 한다. 관람객은 정형화된 해석의 틀에서 벗어나 본인만의 시각을 통해 혹은 작가의 경험을 상상하며 작품을 해석하는 기회를 가지길 희망한다.

Carlos Blanco Artero (b.1983)는 전 세계를 무대로 활발히 활동하고 있다. 뉴욕, 로스앤젤레스, 마이애미, 홍콩, 파리, 필리핀, 사라고사, 바르셀로나, 마드리드 등 각국의 미술관, 갤러리 및 기관에서 전시했으며 그의 작품은 미국 음악가 Allen Stone, 철학자 Fernando Savater, 대만의 Chiu Chien Chang 컬렉션, Richard Magides 이외 다수의 공공 및 개인 컬렉터가 소장하고 있다.

The Untitled Void presents Blanco, Carlos Blanco Artero’s first solo exhibition in Korea, from the 17th of March through the 16th of April. Based in Madrid, Blanco is a Spanish artist whose work reflects the influence of master painters from the many different countries where he has held residence over the years. Blanco is also a practicing pianist studying different ways in which sound can be transformed into images, seeking wide-ranging modes of expression that push boundaries and bend genres. Inspired by a variety of sources in the environment around him and his own physical experiences, Blanco’s artistic process is brought to completion as it is interwoven with his personal philosophy.

The concept of ‘chaosmos’ appears in a number of Blanco’s works in which the imagery and abstraction are not bisected but shown simultaneously on a single canvas. Paintings and drawings, overlapping in a rhythmic manner and complementing each other, the lines and colors in these pieces are sublimated into a single work of art. In an earlier stage of his career, the artist focused more on exploring specific figures. More recently, however, these same figures have been physically deconstructed, disintegrating into a kind of abstraction that subtly transformers and patterns the entire image.

By organically developing the inherent characteristics of multifaceted combination, these works  build on their intuitive first impression with their multiple perspectives and three-dimensionality in a way that fosters conflicting desires for both decomposition and interpretation, ultimately enabling a more colorful spectrum of appreciation. Here, the viewer is encouraged to step outside the framework of standardized interpretation and trust their own unique and singular perspective, or perhaps even imagine the artist’s own experience.

Carlos Blanco Artero (b.1983) is actively working all around the world. He has exhibited at museums, galleries and institutions in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Hong Kong, Paris, Philippines, Zaragoza, Barcelona or Madrid. His works are included in numerous major collections like those of the American musician Allen Stone, the philosopher Fernando Savater, the Chiu Chien Chang Collection in Taiwan or billionaire Richard Magides, and have also been collected by a number of private collectors.
