박미라, 박소진, 손효정의 ‘박미라, 박소진, 손효정’

살아가면서 누구나 현실과 상상을 결합해 보거나, 인식적 호기심을 바탕으로 현실 너머의 세계를 상상해 보지만, 명확한 해답이 없기에 깊이 묻어두곤 한다. 우리가 SF나 판타지를 보며 희열을 느끼는 이유는 현실과 상상의 경계를 넘나들며 새로운 세계와 이야기를 탐험하는 경험이 내면의 열망을 대신 충족시켜 주기 때문이다. 디 언타이틀드 보이드에서는 박미라, 박소진, 손효정의 ‘박미라, 박소진, 손효정’을 통해 인간 무의식 속에 억압된 ‘꿈에 대한 갈망’을 그들의 독창적인 철학과 예술 세계로 풀어낸다. 본 전시는 세 작가의 환영적 세계관이 담긴 30여 점의 매개 작품들을 한자리에서 만나볼 수 있는 흥미로운 시간을 선사한다.

박미라(b.1982)는 의식과 무의식의 경계에서 생성된 이미지를 검은색을 중심으로 한 화면 안에 동시다발적으로 담아낸다. 그의 작품 속에는 인간, 동식물, 사물 등이 임의로 결합되고 배치되며, 그로테스크하고 불안정한 ‘그것’들의 집단을 보여준다. ‘그것’들은 개별적으로 운동하며 화면을 채우고 복잡한 서사를 내포하는 듯하지만, 실은 아무 이야기도 명확히 들려주지 않는다. 작가는 화면 내에 구멍, 문, 창문과 같은 환유적 요소를 통해 가상과 실재의 경계를 허물고, 또 다른 차원과의 연결 가능성을 암시한다. 뿔(물고기의 촉수, 나뭇가지, 인간의 손과 같은 형태)을 통해 ‘그것’들의 자유로운 이동성을 암시하며, 유기적으로 차원을 넘나드는 그의 작품은 우리를 예측할 수 없는 미지의 세계로 이끈다.

박소진(b.1983)의 작업은 숙명처럼 주어진 인간 사회의 구조와, 비표준적 혼합이라 여겼던 개인적 배경에서 시작한다. 주로 섬유 위에 드로잉하고 바느질하며 자신만의 세계를 구축하는데, 이때 실은 단일 세계를 잇고 허무는 도구로 작용한다. 동시대적 전형에서 벗어나 자신만의 세계를 창조하려는 의지 속에서, 현실과 비현실 사이의 틈을 자유롭게 오가는 존재를 그려낸다. 영웅 혹은 크리처와 같은 유기체로 형상화된 존재들은 반복되는 패턴 속에서 진화하며 수많은 의미를 품는다. 그의 작업 세계는 현재를 성찰하게 하며, 우리 안에 내재된 유토피아적 상상을 자극한다.

“돌연 사라지거나 폭발하는 불안정한 나와는 달리 질서와 체계가 아름다운 안정감 있는 물리학이 좋았다.” 손효정(b.1987)의 작업은 이러한 고민과 물리학에 대한 관심에서 비롯된다. 그는 수학과 물리학의 개념에 천착하며 이를 시각적으로 탐구해 왔다. 단순한 기호와 도형들이 화면의 기초가 되고, 그의 지휘 아래 구도, 각도, 빛의 방향성 등이 부여되며 화면을 구성한다. 복잡한 표상의 화면은 명확한 질서와 체계를 내포하고 있으며, 시간성을 초월하고자 콜라주를 적극적으로 활용한다. 그의 작업은 물리학을 시각예술 속에 기술하려는 시도이자, 예술과 과학 사이의 경계를 허무는 가교로서 작동한다. 이러한 몰입을 바탕으로 한 그의 작품은 물리학에 예술성을 부여하며, 새로운 시각예술의 패러다임을 제시한다.

이번 ‘박미라, 박소진, 손효정’에서는 세 작가가 구축한 개별적인 구조와 공상적 이미지들이 관객에게 내면의 열망을 환기시키는 분위기를 자아낸다. 세 작가의 세계관은 각각의 철학을 탐색하게 함과 동시에, 일상의 틀에서 벗어나게 하는 흥미로운 지침서 역할을 한다. 작품 속 요소들을 미시적으로 들여다보고, 세 작가의 세계가 혼합된 전경을 함께 관조함으로써, 잠시나마 현실과 상상의 경계에 있는 꿈같은 세계를 경험하게한다.

At various moments in life, we all find ourselves blending reality with imagination, or envisioning worlds beyond what we perceive—driven by a deep curiosity. Yet, because such thoughts rarely offer clear answers, we often leave them buried within. Our fascination with science fiction and fantasy stems from their ability to satisfy our inner longings by allowing us to transcend the boundaries of reality and explore unfamiliar realms. In ‘Mira Park, Sojin Park, Hyojeong Son’, presented at The Untitled Void, three artists delve into the subconscious and repressed human desire for dreaming—each translating this impulse through their own artistic philosophies and unique visual languages. The exhibition brings together over thirty works that serve as portals into visionary, imaginative worlds.

Mira Park (b.1982) navigates the space between consciousness and the unconscious, constructing layered compositions grounded in black. Her works depict surreal combinations of humans, animals, plants, and objects—grotesque, unstable entities that seem to move independently within the frame. These forms suggest stories, yet deliberately resist any fixed narrative. Through recurring motifs like holes, doors, and windows, she blurs the boundary between the real and the virtual, hinting at the possibility of other dimensions. Horn-like forms—recalling tentacles, branches, or hands—suggest fluid mobility and a sense of continuous dimensional shift, pulling the viewer into the unknown.

Sojin Park (b.1983) draws from personal reflections on societal structures—seen as fated—and her own sense of hybrid identity. Through intricate drawings and stitching on fabric, she constructs imaginative realms where thread functions as both connector and destroyer of singular worlds. Her work depicts beings—part hero, part creature—that exist between reality and unreality, evolving within repeated patterns rich with layered meaning. Her practice breaks from the archetypes of the contemporary, encouraging introspection while stirring dormant utopian visions within the viewer.

“Unlike my unstable self, who might suddenly disappear or explode, I was drawn to the beautiful stability found in the order and systems of physics.” Hyojeong Son (b.1987) begins her work from this contemplation. Her practice is deeply rooted in an inquiry into physics and mathematics, which she interprets through visual language. Simple symbols and geometric forms serve as the foundation for carefully constructed compositions, imbued with balance, direction, and structure. Her complex visual systems incorporate light, space, and collage to transcend linear time and express invisible forces. Son’s work operates as both a visual investigation of physics and a poetic bridge between science and art.

Together, in ‘Mira Park, Sojin Park, Hyojeong Son’, the three artists construct distinct yet resonant worlds that stir something deep within. Their work evokes inner desires, challenges perceptions, and invites viewers to step momentarily outside the confines of everyday life. Through both close observation and wide contemplation, this exhibition offers a fleeting glimpse into a dreamlike realm where reality and imagination converge—within the space of The Untitled Void.
